Friday, and the start of Ponty’s Big Weekend 2008, saw the staging of an impressive outdoor cinema in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. Not even the miserable weather could keep film enthusiasts away, as many turned out to watch Shrek and Grease on the big screen – both of which had been nominated by the public via the Red Dragon FM website.
Whilst the cinematic events were taking place in the Park, the first of three musical nights was kicking off in the Muni Arts Centre. Danish pop group, Alphabeat, energetically took to the stage and wowed its Ponty audience with many hits including chart toppers, 10,000 nights and Fascination. With support from the much acclaimed, Friends Electric, Alphabeat certainly made their mark on the Big Weekend.
